"Dear Sir: .........Recently I went through my entire personal chess library and did some thoughtful "pruning". Attached are lists of those items I have decided to part with and have intentions of selling. Eventually I shall resort to eBay, Craig's List, Bargain News, etc., but for now I thought that I would alert local Connecticut clubs and New England clubs first to what I have to offer. I would appreciate it if you would spread the word in any manner you see fit. Thank you. Regards, Paul Kollar 203-888-9415 e-mail: kollarpaul@sbcglobal.net" Here is a Microsoft Excel list of the chess items being sold. And, a Microsoft Word list of the chess items being sold. |

From: "ftownsend" Subject: June 23-24 To: "Kostreba, Ed" Ed, I am receiving entries from a WMCV listing for the Townsend Cup tournament on June 23-24. This event was never submitted to Chess Life, because Wesleyan University closed its student center (a new one is under construction) and the University had to cancel the usage of the site. Can you put up a notice that this event is not being held on June 23-24? Thank you. I am working on rescheduling it for Nov 10-11 at a different location. Fred |

I am researching into the chess games of Sammy Reshevsky. If any one has any games played against him (including postal and simultaneous) I would be delighted to receive them. Many thanks, Marek Soszynski email: soszynski@btopenworld.com |

Hello Western Mass Chess Players- Just a note on a few points I need to address. 1. Since the "new" WMCA web site IS NOT being updated on a regular basis, and is lacking in many ways, I strongly urge all of you to use THIS WEB SITE to keep in touch with the Western MA chess scene! As soon as the WMCA site is up to snuff, I'll let you know!! 2. The resurrected SKITTLES ROOM newsletter, the official publication of WMCA, is back! I am the Editor and I am in desperate need of games! Unannotated games are ok, but PLEASE check them for move accuracy! Your notes on the moves are fine OR I can FRITZ 8 them for publication. 3. There will be sample issues, with membership forms inside at clubs in Western MA and at some events. Take a look at it. There are July samples around and soon there will be samples of the October issue! That new issue is almost ready to go and it WILL be in the mail to WMCA members well before the scheduled Oct. 1 mail date! 4. Besides games I need info from clubs in Western MA and all chess related info for the newsletter!! Send what you have. My e-mail address is ae1b@trysb.net Snail mail is John Dould 41 Gauthier Road, Barre, MA 01005-9081 That's about it for now. Take care and may all your games be great ones! Yours for chess...............John Dould Editor SKITTLES ROOM |

Greetings one and all... I thought that I would take advantage of this Bulletin Board by asking a simple question... What kind of tournaments would "local" chess players like to see in their area? Here are some options tell me what you think and if you care to add anything else along these lines do send in your suggestions. I have just gotten my TD's License and would like to run events out where I live that would attract players like yourself. However I am no longer part of the Western Mass. chess community! But having your views aired here might help the local TD's out your way with running the type of events you would like to see. Here are the different "types": A. Club events with a low entry fee. No prizes but the opportunity to play for rating points. USCF Rated B. Club events with an entry fee to cover numerous class prizes. USCF Rated C. Club events with a low entry fee, a first place prize and a grand prix set up with a big prize at the end of it all. The Grand Prix being held over several events. USCF Rated. D. Club events with a low entry fee, a first place prize and a grand prix set up with a big prize at the end of it all. The Grand Prix being held over several events. Unrated but using USCF rules to govern the event. E. Club events with an entry fee to cover numerous class prizes. Unrated but USCF rules apply. F. Club events with a low entry fee. No prizes but the opportunity to play a tune up event for upcoming tournaments and to get competitive practice. Unrated but using USCF rules. This would allow players to get ready for events without inflating their rating and only making it more difficult for them to win a prize in a big event. I am really interested to see what everyone's thoughts are on the matter. If you have anything to add, please do! Thanks for your time -Sean Tobin. |
